How many mountain cottages mention a drying room

92 of the 7,101 places to stay on this site mention a drying room. Every one of the 7,101 is within reach of a walk in Britain's mountain regions, and the count comes from the owner's own list of what is in the house, read on the merchant's listing between 5 and 9 October 2026. 3,272 of the same listings mention a wood burner and 929 a hot tub, 10 times as many as mention anywhere to dry a coat.

The sector sells these cottages to walkers. Sykes Cottages files properties under a "near walks" search and describes them as ideal for a walking holiday; that search returned 20,369 cottages across the UK and Ireland when it was read on 9 October 2026. What the listings seldom do is say where a wet jacket and a pair of boots go at the end of a day on the hill, which on a week of rain is the difference between the second morning starting dry and starting damp.

What the listings mention

Counted across all 7,101. A feature counts only where the listing says yes; a listing that says nothing about it is not counted as a no, because the owner may simply not have mentioned it.

The listing mentions Places Share
Drying room 92 1.3%
Boot room 128 1.8%
A walk from the door 15 0.2%
Secure bike storage 1,215 17.1%

Each drying room count opens the list behind it.

What the count does not say

A listing that does not mention a drying room does not mean the house has none. Owners write these lists to describe the house, not to answer a walker's questions, and a utility room with a heated airer or a porch with a radiator can do the same job without anyone calling it a drying room. What the figure does show is how rarely the owners themselves think to say so, and that is the information a walker booking a wet week in the hills does not get from the photographs.

Where it matters, ask the owner before booking. The 92 that do say so are under the drying room filter on all stays, each with the date its listing was read and the walks within reach of it.
